Gwangalli Beach — What Locals & Foreigners Really Say (2026)

Directory··By Ryan Lee

광안리 (Gwangalli) is Busan's local beach — where residents actually hang out instead of tourist-packed Haeundae. Known for the iconic Gwangan Bridge night view, beach cafe culture, and a younger, more relaxed vibe, Gwangalli is where Busan shows its real personality.

What Foreigners Say 🌍

— Reddit r/koreatravel, 2025

"The bridge view at night is stunning — especially when the lights change colour. Worth coming just for that."

"Great cafe culture along the beach. Every cafe has ocean views and some have actual bed seating. Very Busan."

"Only 15 minutes from Haeundae by subway. There's no reason not to visit both — but Gwangalli is where I'd spend the evening."

Recommended — Where to Actually Go

These spots are consistently praised by both locals and visitors.

Cultural context: Gwangalli is where Busan locals actually hang out — younger, more relaxed than Haeundae. The cafe-on-the-beach culture here is uniquely Busan. While Haeundae caters to tourists and luxury hotels, Gwangalli is neighbourhood beach life with ocean-view cafes, craft beer bars, and locals walking their dogs on the promenade. It's the real Busan evening experience.

Before You Go — Key Tips

  • Best time for the bridge view is after 8pm. The full LED lighting programme runs until midnight. Weekend drone shows (Saturday evenings) are free and worth timing your visit around.
  • Subway access is easy. Gwangan Station (Line 2) is a 5-minute walk to the beach. From Haeundae, it's about 15 minutes by subway.
  • Cafe prices are reasonable. Unlike Haeundae's tourist-priced beachfront, Gwangalli cafes charge standard Busan prices (5,000–7,000 won for coffee).
  • Summer weekends get busy. Gwangalli is less crowded than Haeundae but still popular. Weekday evenings are ideal for a quiet experience.
  • The beach itself is smaller than Haeundae. Come for the atmosphere and views, not necessarily for swimming.

💰 Expected costs: 카페 커피 5,000–7,000원 · 해변 맥주 4,000–6,000원 · 야경 감상 무료
